The LANGuardian Identity Module is built so that it can support additional user directory and authentication systems as required. An extra plugin is developed for each new system (kind of like an Abstraction Layer). From this plugin the Identity Module gets the required username, IP address and login timestamp information.

Currently Identity Module supports LDAP queries of Active Directory and Novell eDirectory, so adding another LDAP based directory is straightforward enough (but may require some help from the client, as there are many different implementations of LDAP directories).

What LANGuardian needs to find out from the directory is: Who is logged on to domain What IP address are they logged on from When did they logon

Active Directory provides this in a single event. eDirectory provides a list of logged on users and their IP’s. LANGuardian calculates the logon time based on differences in the list between successive queries.

As long as the directory can provide LANGuardian with the basic information, generating the LDAP queries is relatively straightforward.
