Some explanations for common characters used in report filters

! - ignore any host or string in the search parameter following this symbol when generating the report

ie !google - ignore all references to google in the reported data

| - This symbol indicates that all elements of the list separated by the | symbol are to be part of the search parameters

ie bebo|facebook|youtube - generate a report based on access to bebo, facebook or youtube

^ - This symbol indicates that the text following after it should be at the start of a line which successfully passes the filter and can be added to a report.

ie ^http - generate a report to list all entries beginning with http

$ - This symbol indicates that the text following it should be at the end of the line for any entry which successfully passes the filter

ie .torrent$ - generate a report to list all entries ending with .torrent

I hope this helps.
