One of the most common questions we hear at the help desk is

"How do I find the bandwidth usage of services like Dropbox"?
"Can I find out who is using Google Drive on my network"? It's a great question....

Our reply has been been to find out the blocks of IP addresses that
these services use and then run a traffic report to see what clients are
accessing those IP addresses. The biggest disadvantage of this approach
is that these services can keep changing IP addresses, making the list
of IP addresses difficult to maintain.

As it happens there is a cool feature in LANGuardian which allows you to
use the subnet search field to check on activity associated with a
domain. You can choose any LANGuardian traffic type report that has an IP/Subnet field, and instead of typing in IP addresses, you can type in a domain. We use, in this example. You get to see all the client IP's in use.

Drilling down you get to see detail like this. Usernames can be shown too as LANGuardian integrates with Active Directory.

Want to try for yourself? Type in or

you have any questions about reporting on host/domain activity, or
indeed any other aspect of Internet traffic monitoring with LANGuardian,
please contact us any time.
