We are upgrading our core switches, the switches we use now for our core will still be used as edge switches though. Will we have to reconfigure span ports or will the old ones still be ok?

Hi Fred,
If you want to keep monitioring at the network core then you need to reconfigure the SPAN ports. We would recommend that you stick to monitoring at the network core. Focus on monitoring server ports or VLANS which are associated with your servers. Lots of info at the link below on how to set up SPAN or mirror ports on managed switches.

If you use Cisco switches you can also use our free SPAN port configurator to get the job done http://www.netfort.com/downloads/free-software
